A big thank you to H. Boyd Nelson for hosting today's Rotary Meeting & Rose Sale pick up. Dr. Ollie Popp
was feeling festive as sales exceeded expectations. The legend that is Dr. Popp has left our area for now to help other service organizations but he is not forgotten.
LeRoy Meyer
(also today's mystery person who selected Don Kramer
for the $1) was the winner of the $10 drawing and Reed Becker
tried for the white marble but wasn't lucky in the marble drawing for $311.
Greg Cummer from Saint Cloud was a visiting Rotarian...Mystery Person John Lervick chose Jody Hanson...Fred Bursch led the singing...The $10 drawing was won by today's guest speaker, Ryan Hauer...Charlie Meyer tried for the $294 pot in the marble drawing but didn't have luck...Dr. Popp and his new associate, Dr. Plopp(pictured below) encourage Rotarians to keep selling roses. Sales are going well but Popp & Plopp hope for another 300 dozen to be sold in the next week...Please note that next week's meeting is at H. Boyd Nelson.
Rachel Barduson introduced today's guest speaker, Ryan Hauer. Ryan is 17 years of age and is a senior at Jefferson. At the Douglas County Historical Society he is a student intern and has a passion for military history, especially World War II. Ryan has a large and growing collection of WW II memorabilia and he is an active participant in battle reenactments. His skill at role playing was demonstrated as he slipped into his role as a member of the 101st Airborne. When Ryan turns 20 he plans on joining the United States Army.
Attendance was fantastic today. It may have been because of the rumored visit of renowned Rose Consultant, Dr. Ollie Popp. Those in attendance weren't disappointed as Dr. Popp not only made an appearance but offered sales coaching and motivation. Apparently, referring to roses as "dead flowers" is not a good sales technique.
It was a pleasure to have 3 students from Jefferson Sr High as guests today. They informed the club about a Nov. 2nd spaghetti dinner at the Holiday Inn's Isabella's. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the high school or at Isabella's. The proceeds($3 per ticket!) are being donated to the school district in Alexandria, Louisiana.
Also, visiting today was a Rotarian from Detroit Lakes.
Jody Shaskey-Setright
won the $10 drawing and Dave Hartmann
tried for the $279 pot but was not lucky today.
Dr. James Mann's guest, Dr. Jeffrey Olive, delivered an informative & entertaining program on Diabetes. For information about symptoms of Diabetes, click here. You also can take a Diabetes Risk Test by clicking here.
Thursday's program: James Mann. James will introduce Dr. Jeffery Olive whose topic is diabetes. We will also have Jefferson students telling us a bit about their fund raiser for Alexandria, Lousiana.
