UCan

Jim B. greeted Rotarians and also assumed the role of Mystery Person. Jim selected Rick P. for the $1 but then took it back as he also delivered Rick his Rotary badge. There weren't any guests or visiting Rotarians. Stuart H. won the $10 drawing and LeRoy M. tried for the $480 pot but was not lucky in finding the white ball. Leading the club in song was Fred B.(click on the play icon on the large image below for a sample) and Mark W. delivered the invocation.

Treo_122905_006_1 Today's guest, Chief of Police Chuck Nettestad, was introduced by Jeff M. Chief Nettestad spoke about the UCan(United Communities Advocating Non-violence) Program. Approx. 40 women in MN have been killed per year by a significan other. Alexandria has had 2 in the last 4 years. Domestic violence is a power & control issue . A domestic violence awareness handbook is available by clicking here.

Caroling

The Jefferson Carolers gave their last performance of the year for our Rotary Club.
As usual they were exceptional!

Lynn Cozmano and four students from Discovery Middle School were also part
of our program. The students (Ricky, Matt, Ashley, and Adam) went to Washington D.C. over the MEA break. Adam had the privelage to place a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. They all enjoyed it immensely. The Washington trip was partly sponsored by
the Alex Rotary Club.

Making An Impression

Treo_121505_001Do what you can, with what you have, right where you are.
-Teddy Roosevelt

Linda K. included this quote in today's Runetarian and it was fitting since today's guest speaker was Kathy Haug, Coordinator for District 206's Mentorship Program. Kathy spoke about the reasons mentors are valuable and about the program itself. Along with Kathy was Dr. Pete Pfeffer(son of Rotarian Kathy) to talk about his experiences as a mentor. Kathy urged Rotarians on January 25th to thank a person that may have acted in a mentorship role in the past. The month of January is National Mentor Month. Click the green image Mentor_2 to view the handout Kathy passed out to Rotarians as they left the meeting.

Other notes...Wayne E. was the Mystery Person and selected Joe H. for his convivial spirit...Charlie M. tried for the white marble but came up blue in the big drawing...my memory is failing in remembering who won the $10 drawing.
