American Red Cross

Melody Thoennes, Treasurer of the Alexandria Red Cross, was our guest today and was introduced by Lee Hockert. Melody spoke about the many services the Red Cross provides besides emergency care such as local swimming lessons and aiding military family members. Melody and her husband Bill(who shucked corn with us the morning of the Corn & Chop Feed) have a son that is soon leaving to serve our country in Iraq. Treo_012606_002_1
Other meeting notes: the Ice Fishing Challenge has been moved to Feb. 25th and Jody Shaskey-Setright(pictured left) is looking for 3 shift leaders...Tim Froemming birthday was this week...Linda Kloubec won the $10 drawing...Jeff Montgomery tried for the $500 but didn't have luck...Craig Mische was the Mystery Person and selected Mike Unrein for his generosity...Jeff Hansen is back and in good health...Rachel Barduson is doing well after a successful surgery and will be back soon!

Beetles

Voz Ryan Voz, General Manager of the Alexandria Beetles baseball team was our guest speaker today.Jason Olsen provided the program and introduction. Ryan spoke about seasons past and exciting events for the upcoming season. A wish of Ryan's is to have a wait-list of families willing to host a Beetle's player during the season.

Additional notes from the meeting...Senator Dallas C. Sams (DFL) District 11 joined us today as a guest of LeRoy Meyer...a big welcome was given to Pete Pfeffer who was at the meeting today as our newest Rotarian...Ralph Tillit led the group sans Diane in a rousing version of Row, Row, Row Your Boat...Treo_011906_001_1your favorite web-site guy won the $10 drawing...Jim Bill had the lucky ticket for the $500 drawing and had Ryan Voz pick the marble out of the bag and Ryan picked the right color for the club, the wrong color for Jim...Jim was also the greeter today...James Mann was the Mystery Person and gave kudos and a $1 to Mark Watkins for his good cheer...Be sure to turn in your Ice Fishing Challenge Raffle Tickets to Jody Shaskey-Setright...Joe Haack reminded everyone to mark their calendars and find prospective members for the February 21st Social(5-6 pm Social,6-7 pm Dinner and Program) at the Broadway Ballroom. District 5950 Gov. Dan Barnett will be in attendance and presenting a program.

Dave H. was the mystery person and although he had many warm handshakes, he was particularly impressed by Ken N....Jim E. presented a new song, 'Rotary Will Go Round the World', that was handled well by Diane A. and the club...Guests included the wives of Jim B.(Vicki) and LeRoy M.(Carol)...Linda K. won the $10 drawing...Jody H. tried for $500 in the big drawing but found a blue marble(14 marbles left!)...invocation by Reed B.(nice job, Reed)...Lee H. gave a report on Rose Sale and Pork Chop Feed(Profits are up over $8,000) Phf_certificate
