Henry’s Foods, has persevered through the peaks and valleys of the
nation’s economy over its 75-year history.
Jim, Tom, and Brian Eidsvold, owners of the company, reflect on the many interesting time periods Henry’s has experienced (the financial collapse of the 1920’s, the Great Depression era of the 1930’s, the war years of the 1940’s with allocations of products and supplies, the economic recovery of the 1950’s and 1960’s, the expansion of the 1970’s and 1980’s and the technology-driven fast pace and highly competitive 1990’s).
"Through all the years," the Eidsvolds note, "and especially now as we have entered a new century, we continue to review and enhance our programs and services for our customers."

In 1979, seven local men that had no broadcasting experience (Jack Henshaw, Chuck Bundy, Merv Mock, Glape Phelps, Bill Plato, Rich Zonesky and Mr. Wharton) formed a non-profit called Selective TV to provide affordable television programming for homes in the Alexandria Lakes Area. With a UHF antenna (purchased and installed for around $200) a homeowner can receive channels such as ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, The History Channel, The Weather Channel and more.
There isn't a requirement to pay for the service but users are asked to contribute a minimum of $70 per year. Selective TV (South Broadway, Century Center, PO Box 665, Alexandria, MN 56308 ph. 320-763-5924) must pay for licenses, utilities, re-broadcasting, insurance and continual upgrading of equipment. Plus, 2008 is the year that has been earmarked for the nation's broadcasting spectrum to be converted to digital which will require a large investment (about $18k for each of the 3 towers) by Selective TV. Currently, there are about 1,800 paying subscribers.
Thank you to Rotarian Don Kramer (also a Board member of Selective TV) for this interesting and informative presentation.
Below, is a video montage of today's meeting. The quality is not good as it was taken with a phone but in it you will see and hear the national anthem, "Jingle Bells" in honor of the snowstorm and Don speaking to the Club.
