It was another successful Rotary Rose Sale and there were a record number of happy recipients of beautiful rose. Not only does the rose sale produce many smiles around the community but the proceeds school activities, youth activities, local community organizations/projects and world community activities. A partial list includes college scholarships, High School Business and Ethics Camp, Senior Graduation Parties, 3rd Grade Dictionary Project, 4H awards, Girl and Boy Scouts, Alexandria Bike Trails Benches, Annual Arbor Day Projects, Heart of Lakes United Way, Red Cross, Warm Hands mitten and hat distribution, Douglas County Hospital Auxiliary, Polio Eradication, Rotary Foundation Projects, Safe Water Projects, Tuxtepec Mexico School for the Handicapped and the Guatemala Stove Project.
The annual United Way Chili Cook-Off took place in our
usual meeting location in the Broadway Ballroom so the October 17th meeting was held at Fat Daddy's. After a warm meal on a cold, rainy day, Tara Bitzan,
Lifestyles Editor at the Echo Press, talked about the Junior Achievement(JA) Program. Tara is active in supporting the program and is passionate about the impact has. Founded in 1919, JA is active in 106 countries and "uses hands-on experiences to help young people understand the economics of life. In partnership with business and educators, Junior Achievement brings the real world to students, opening their minds to their potential."
