The Diabetic Foot

Of the sixteen million Americans with diabetes, 25% will develop foot problems related to the disease. Dr. James Mann is a podiatrist and at this week's meeting he provided his fellow Rotarians information about diabetes and the feet problems diabetics are at risk of developing. Diabetic foot conditions develop from a combination of causes including poor circulation and neuropathy. Diabetic Neuropathy can cause insensitivity or a loss of ability to feel pain, heat, and cold. Diabetics suffering from neuropathy can develop minor cuts, scrapes, blisters, or pressure sores that they may not be aware of due to the insensitivity. If these minor injuries are left untreated, complications may result and lead to ulceration and possibly even amputation. Neuropathy can also cause deformities such as Bunions, Hammer Toes, and Charcot Feet.

Working To Bring International Convention To Minneapolis In 2015

Two Cities. Two States. One World.

Business leaders in central Minnesota and western Wisconsin are working to bring the world to Minneapolis/St. Paul in 2015.

Rotary International Districts 5950 and 5960 are bidding to bring the 2015 Rotary International Convention to the area. An estimated 18,000 to 25,000 Rotarians from some 139 countries and geographical areas attend the service organization’s annual convention. This year’s convention was held in Los Angeles. The 2009 convention will be held in Birmingham, England.

Heritage Fest

Jennie Hevern is the Committee Co-Chair of Alexandria's Heritage Fest anb spoke at the Alexandria Rotary Club this week about the Third Heritage Fest. It was held earlier in May in coordination with Awake the Lakes. The Douglas County Lake Association and the Diversity Resource Action Alliance hosted the 2008 Heritage Fest and featured free ethnic entertainment, music and artisans, water activities and a Native American pow-wow. Jennie and her fellow committee members are raising funds and planning for the 2009 Heritage Fest.

2008-2009 Rotary District 5950 Governor Chris Holm

The 2008-2009 District 5950 Governor, Chris Holm, stopped for a visit with the Alexandria Rotary Club. As District Governor, Chris oversees 60 Rotary clubs and over 3,000 Rotarians in west central and south central Minnesota as well as the Minneapolis area.

Chris has 6 goals for each Club and 4 District goals that he is striving to reach during his term.
