2009 Rotary Young Entrepreneur Awards

Amanda Zwieg (Moe 4-H) and Crystal Bosek (Chippewans 4-H) were honored on Saturday, November 21st at the 4-H Awards Night. The Alexandria Rotary Club introduced this annual award in 2004 and recognizes two 4-H youth who have gone above and beyond the 4-H project experience by using it as a stepping stone to create a business opportunity using the skills and knowledge they have gained in 4-H. Amanda and Crystal both received $200 checks from the Alexandria Rotary Club.

Choose Good Health

The Alexandria Rotary welcomed Mara Hjelle, owner of Choose Good Health, Inc. as speaker at the club’s November 19 meeting. Hjelle discussed the role of personal accountability in achieving and maintaining good health, and how the six dimensions of healthy living – emotional, spiritual, environmental, social, physical and intellectual – interact to determine our overall wellness.

Mayor Dan Ness

The Mayor of Alexandria, Dan Ness, spoke to the Alexandria Rotary Club about business in Alexandria at yesterday's meeting at the Broadway Ballroom. He and everyone else in attendance were treated to some fun as Pete Pfeffer was the song leader.

Fall Sports and Roses

The competitive spirit was in the air at the Alexandria Rotary Club’s November 5th meeting. The results of the annual rose sale competition were announced, with team Vikings squeaking out a narrow victory over team Gophers and claiming their “just desserts” – cheesecake!

The fundraiser was a victory for the whole club, though, as approximately $11,500 was raised after expenses. Kathy Nohre again took the title of top sales star, with 166 dozen sold but was followed closely by rose selling ace Tom Haase. The program followed the sports theme, as Dave Hartmann introduced Jefferson High School football coach Mike Empting and volleyball coach Becky Schlichting to share highlights of the fall seasons.
