Spencer Jacobson

The Alexandria Rotary Club welcomed Spencer Jacobson, son of Rotarian Tom Jacobson, to the December 31 meeting. Spencer, who has recently been accepted to the United States Air Force Academy, Naval Academy and West Point, shared his longtime ambition to serve in the armed forces and the complex process of applying for entry into these elite academies. He also showed a video that illustrated the grueling training that applicants and cadets experience.

The Jefferson Carolers (Jefferson Senior High School) performed for Alexandria Rotarians at today's meeting at the Broadway Ballroom.

Life in Saudi Arabia

Alexandria Rotarians welcomed Jerry and Karol Mohs (at the invitation of Lee Hockert) to their meeting at the Broadway Ballroom today. Jerry, 1981-1982 Alexandria Rotary Club President), and Karol recounted their experience of living in Saudi Arabia for 12 years. The couple related the challenges of moving into a highly restrictive culture which doesn’t generally welcome foreigners. Karol also modeled the traditional abaya and veil, the required dress of Muslim women in that country.

Club 1

Greg Kneprath, Greg Blake and Liz Gorham were the guest speakers at our weekly meeting at the Broadway Ballroom.

They joined us to talk about Club 1, a place for young people in our community to socialize with their peers in a safe, supervised, drug/alcohol-free environment. Club 1 has been an excellent opportunity to build mentor relationships with youth. And, many young people that don't have caring adults in their lives have the opportunity to confide in adults that do care about them.
