At today's meeting, Alexandria Rotarians Clark Baldwin and Craig Mische shared their thoughts and experiences from their visit to Peace House Secondary School in Arusha, Tanzania. Opened in 2007, PHS is a unique and dynamic school for orphans and vulnerable children is already home to over 200 students, with about 100 new students being enrolled each year.
The aim, and in the opinions of Clark and Craig they are succeeding, is to be a unique school with a special focus on creative problem solving and entrepreneurial business skills. Graduates of PHS will be job creators — young people who can build a sustainable future for Tanzania.
One of our last days at Peace House Secondary School in Arusha, Tanzania, a group of the students left their evening activity, a movie, to hustle to their rooms and put on their uniforms. They had heard that the visiting Rotarians enjoyed their singing so they gladly agreed to give us an impromptu performance in one of the classrooms (Your eyes are fine. The lighting in the classroom caused a wave in my video).
The students sang all the time. On the bus to plant trees, at devotionals, at meals and pretty much anytime you asked. Hopefully they will all be future Rotarians as they will bring a lot to any club that they join. They gave a lot to us after only one week with them. - Craig Mische and Clark Baldwin
